A tower of Kapla

Some children in K3 kept going and built an impressive tower out of Kapla today. It started out small
 Then we needed chairs!

 Taller than Mrs Hervé!
 Taller than Steph!
 Then we needed tables!
 Taller than Mr Gregg!
Great building guys!

My Great Granny

Jacob shared this interview with the class this morning:

Count on me

In assembly we sung this song:

Old and New

Blanca has been busy comparing old and new things. Have a look:

Which one doesn't belong?

Today we all looked at this:
And thought which one doesn't belong, and why?

Here are some of our ideas:
If you weren't here, you could add your ideas as a comment below (call them the top left, top right, bottom left or bottom right).

Some books and an interview

Freddie interviewed his Grandfather about how things were different in the past:
He also brought in some books that his mum had when she was little:
The one on the left is a book about planets. It has Pluto as a planet, but people think that Pluto is too small to be a planet now. The yellow book is a book of poems. Here's a nice one:

THE KEY OF THE KINGDOM

This is the key of the kingdom
In that kingdom is a city;
In that city is a town;
In that town there is a street;
In that street there winds a lane;
In that lane there is a yard;
In that yard there is a house;
In that house there waits a room;
In that room an empty bed;
And on that bed a basket,
A basket of  flowers.

Flowers in the basket;
Basket on the bed;
Bed in the chamber;
Chamber in the house;
House in the weedy yard;
Yard in the winding lane;
Lane in the broad street;
Street in the high town;
Town in the city;
City in the kingdom:
This is the key to the kingdom.

Toys from the past

For our new unit of inquiry we're learning about the past.

Elliot shared some of the toys that his grandparents played with in the 1950s and 1960s.

He showed us a picture of his grandma when she was just a bit younger than three years old:
What a great photograph!

Elliot's grandma had written about toys that she and Elliot's granddad had as children:
And here are the Woodland Happy Family cards:

Here's Muffin the Mule on television back then. What do you think of the programme?
(Catherine brought in her grandmother's Muffin the Mule - click here to see it.)

Forest School

We went for a big walk down to the river this week! And then up the hill again:
We continued with our Little Red Riding Hood drama, ordering numbers, cooking up some delicious food in the "house"  and playing games. See the album here.

Miró-inspired paintings

We're really proud of the creativity children in K3 have demonstrated - lots of brilliant shapes and lines, often with a real sense of rhythm in the picture, and then really thoughtful and careful painting!

Most of you have seen the work up at school, but you can also see albums of the two classes' finished work, here for K3G and here for K3H.

Miró-inspired paintings

We're using little brushes to very carefully paint pictures in the style of Miró's Constellations.

See an album of photos here.
